2008 Youth Fishing Derby

A special THANK YOU to our many sponsors and our small army of volunteers who so generously make it possible for us to take 300 area youth (ages 4-14) fishing and fully equip them with a brand new Pure Fishing/Johnson rod and reel and a Plano tacklebox. At this wonderful event, shared with their newfound fishing buddies, moms and dads, grandparents and brothers and sisters, many of them are introduced to the wonderful world of fishing for the first time. A casting contest also offers them the chance to win one of 6 bikes and other prizes. The best fishing stories are shared during our shoreline lunch and a good time is had by all. We also include the best stories and winners of the casting contest on center stage of the Bass Tournament to be recoginzed for their talents.
As a continued effort to enhance the "HOOKED ON FISHING - NOT ON DRUGS PROGRAM", we started a fishing equipment loaner program in 2003. The Girl's Inc., Boy's Club, Big Brothers-Big Sisters and the Winnebago Youth Center each received 12 rods and reels to loan out to adults wishing to take area youth fishing. January of 2004 we were involved in equipping students from the South Sioux City Junior High mentor program with rods and reels for a day of ice fishing.
OUR PHILOSOPHY IS SIMPLE: You want to spend quality time with a child? Take them fishing!
